Breakfast On the Beach in France

I had the opportunity to go to Santa Barbara area and visit a winery and stay on site at it's French Villa! It was AMAZING it felt like I had been transported to the countryside of France.  The villa was built of all reclaimed materials imported from France... like everything, even the light switch covers. The architecture and interior design was beautiful, it really was a treat to stay there.

Check these out!

I just realized I am not in any of those, but I promise I was there!

Then on the way back to Visalia, Erin and I got to have a little breakfast on the beach. It was delightful.  First of all, I love eating out for breakfast! Second, eating on the beach makes it more fun. There is just something peaceful about being at the ocean.  It was a fun, easy item to check of the list, finally something relaxing on this list of mine.  I am getting tired.

That's a vanilla latte with a bagel, breakfast sandwich, incase you were wondering!!

   Yep it was good!

What a fabulous weekend of getting away and eating breakfast on the beach. Check and Check!

High Roller

While in Las Vegas I put my $100 down on the black jack table.... and played black jack poorly for about half an hour. It was fun to play for a while, but gambling is definitely not my thing.  I did get a few pictures of the experience though, as it may not happen again. Hit me.

You Start Walking My Way; I'll KEEP Walking!!

We’ll meet in the middle… PLEASE! Calling all friends willing to help finish this list!

OK, so I am over half way through my 29th year! I have a few things left on this list of mine and I may need to call in reinforcements! Here is a status update.

Things I have done recently!

#5 Go to a concert

My friend Juliana helped out with this one! We went to support a local celebrity from Pentatonix, Avi Kaplan.  Pentatonix is the a cappella group that won The Sing- Off on NBC last year.  IT WAS A GREAT SHOW!  Here is a video link ( Video ), check them out.

I Continue to Cook and Read the Bible. I know, you all want me life!

I am thinking I may have to have a little pioneer woman cook off and have friends bring a dish from the cookbook and then we can all have a little sampling of the goods! And I can check off a large number of dishes from the cookbook.

K, until next time.

Boterkoek/ Buttercake

“If you're afraid of butter, use cream.”
Julia Child

Well this was a list item that was simple, learn how to make a dutch treat that I always enjoy, but probably never would find the time/ the recipe to make it.  I wanted to make Boterkoek, I know it's so easy.  I heard that a lot when I mentioned this idea, but I am not master in the kitchen and especially baking... being precise is not my strong suit. So, I found myself a great teacher and got to work! It was pretty easy too :)

Here's how the lesson went:  Photo Credits go to David and Kara, don't mind a few heads cut off I think they were being artistic!

My Teacher, Jonna Lemstra ( We had some helpers too, Kasey & Kara)

 Let's start with the recipe:
Putting it all together: With your hands no less, well just one hand works best.  I found that out after!

Then split the dough and spread it evenly in a pie pan... See it's so easy.

Here's the cream part.. I never would have guessed. Smooth the top with cream then bake:

That's it! Thanks Lemstras, I had a great time!

Tuesdays with Kara

I'll let the pictures do the talking on this one.... As you can see, I have been cooking, usually on Tuesdays :)  Slowly becoming that Pioneer Woman.  Note the slowly, there were some disasters, mostly on the angel food cake. I apparently didn't whip it enough or something, but I did sift the flour 7 times ( with a strainer, ha) . I would say that actually makes me more of a pioneer woman, improvising!
